General procedure when matching two companies

  1. Check whether the company name matches for both proposed companies
    1. if yes (e.g. “BMW AG” and “BMW GmbH”) —> Continue with 2.
    2. if no (e.g. “BMW AG” and “Porsche AG”) —> Click “Reject Matching”
  2. Check whether the type of enterprise matches for both proposed companies
    1. if yes (e.g. “BMW AG” and “BMW AG”) —> Click “Confirm Matching”
    2. if no (e.g. “BMW AG” and “BMW GmbH”) —> Continue with 3.
  3. Check whether the company name (on the left) with the proposed type of enterprise already exists within the IP data base (Therefore click on the “Search”-box in the top right of the page and enter the company name and the type of enterprise)
    1. if *yes": Click “Reject Matching”
    2. if no: Click “Switch to Proposal” and create a new company with the according name in the IPIB

Problems and irregularities: If…

…the proposed company name on the left doesn’t include a type of enterprise (e.g. “Novartis”)

  1. Open the according proposal by clicking on the below “EPO”-button
  2. Check the address that is indicated for the proposed company name
  3. By using Google-Search or the company homepage, find out which part of the company/type of enterprise is located at this address
  4. After you found out the type of enterprise, follow the general procedure for matching two companies

…the proposed company on the left is a person (e.g. “Audier, Philippe AndrĂ©, et al”)

  1. Click “Reject Matching”
